about

'extinction' is soundtrack music from a 90-minute, multi-disciplinary performance, a collaboration with dance artist Lin Snelling, that was produced by Carbone 14 & presented at Usine C in Montréal in 2004. In the two years prior, a version of it was presented in Coyoacán Mexico & Studio 303 in Montréal. Much of the music was composed on a '70s vintage analogue Roland synthesizer & a Dr Rhythm drum machine, as well as electric guitar, all of which were uncharacteristic means of making music for me. Three tracks are made with prepared guitar. There is also a sound collage integrated into 'lounge', made with the editing assistance of sound engineer Dino Giancola. The second last piece, 'white bone' is from another album, 'white desert blue shadows', improvised & recorded in 2001 in Toronto, with Barry Prophet on lithophones. Much of what was addressed in this piece, almost twenty years ago, has sadly come to be prescient. Extinction, in many incarnations, seems more like a ‘real thing’.
